What is Eight Mansions Feng Shui 八宅風水 [Ba Zhai Feng Shui] Eight Mansions Feng Shui is based on the Life Gua 命卦 [Ming Gua]. Ming Gua or Gua Number is a number derived from our birth year. From this number, we can tap into good energies and avoid the negative energies direction. The essence of this method is that the quality of the houses is determined by the direction in which it sits/faces. Different parts of the house have auspicious or inauspicious energies. Major functions room like master bed room or dining room is put in auspicious areas while toilet, kitchen, and bathroom usually put in the inauspicious areas. Men and women move in an opposite direction. Men’s Ming Gua number go in descending order year by year, while women’s Ming Gua number go in ascending order year by year. Formula for Eight Mansions MALE: Sum up the last two digits of the year of birth and add them to a single digit. If the year of birth is before year 2000, minus this number from 10 and if after the year 2000, minus this number from 9. Example: Man born in 1999 9 + 9 = 18 1 + 8 = 9 10 - 9 = 1 (Ming Gua) FEMALE: Sum up the last two digits of the year of birth and add them to a single digit. Add 5 to this number if year of birth is before year 2000, and add 6 if year of birth is after year 2000 Example: Female born in 1999 9 + 9 = 18 1 + 8 = 9 9 + 5 = 14 1 + 4 = 5 (2 is the Ming Gua) Note: If the last result is 5, for male we change it to Ming Gua 2 (as the above example) and for female, we change it into Ming Gua 8.
